Lael Read

Lael Read is a Mangawhai-based potter whose work spans both wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramics. She studied pottery through hand building and wheel-throwing classes, research and a lot of trial and error, developing a practice that combines traditional techniques with contemporary design.

Her work ranges from functional tableware to sculptural vessels, often inspired by natural forms and textures. Each piece emphasizes tactile qualities and thoughtful form, balancing usability with visual interest.

Based in Mangawhai, Lael also runs workshops, sharing her skills and encouraging others to explore their creativity with clay.
