Phillipa‘s abstract paintings, which are created with a blend of acrylic, soft pastel, graphite, charcoal, dry pigment and occasional collage, are bold, joyful, vital and free.

Abstract‘s positioning beyond words, assumptions and definitions appeals to Phillipa. She sees her paintings as invitations to both artist and viewer - to wonder -linger a little longer - allow meaning to emerge - engage Self - and perhaps strength the capacity to live a little easier with ambiguity and uncertainty.

Her many layered painting process was developed during Nicholas Wilton‘s CVP training program. Starting with play. Responding to color, line and shape. Trialling texture. Feeling the pull of body and rhythm of music. A dance of call and response. Continually experimenting. Willing to paint over anything. Waiting and watching for an underlying feeling and design. It is a paint heavy process requiring patience and bucket loads of trust. An engrossing, challenging and often blissful experience.

Her years in Art2Life Academy and her training with Artfuel‘s Filter and Focus workshop, honed her skills for the next more analytical stage. Applying principles to strengthen the piece.

Phillipa has held a number of large, solo pop up shows over recent years, and her work has found its way into the homes of numerous collectors in NZ, USA, and Australia.
