Shaelagh Jones

Shaelagh Jones is an acrylic and mixed media artist residing in Whangarei. Historically she trained in horticulture and landscape design which led her to establish a landscape design business in Wellington. After almost a decade she moved to Paris where her children were born. While there she began painting and frequented many art galleries. She considers her time in Paris as a wonderful gift of educational and cultural experience.

Returning home she dabbled in acrylic painting and began a daily practice, incorporating art courses both online and at the Quarry Arts Centre. Creative Northland helped with her first exhibition and she has since exhibited at both Reyburn House and Mangawhai Artists Gallery. She has also sold works at South Seas Art and Helena Bay galleries and is currently involved in life drawing, urban sketching and painting groups. Shaelagh is current Secretary of the Northland Society of Arts at Reyburn House.

Plants in all their forms and colour is inspiration for much of her work. She describes her work as pseudo abstract with elements of the figurative. Making gestural marks in an unplanned fashion is her starting point and from there anything can happen.
