My work is rooted in a deep connection to nature and its emotional language. Over the years, I have developed an impressionistic style that seeks to capture not just what we see, but what we feel in the presence of the natural world. Flora, in particular, is at the heart of my practice—its forms, colours, and rhythms offer endless possibilities for sensory and symbolic expression.

After many years working and exhibiting in England, I returned to my native New Zealand in 2011. Re-establishing my studio here has been a homecoming of sorts, placing me once again amidst the rich landscapes that have always inspired me. The heat of long summers, the heady scent of night gardens, and the vibrancy of places teeming with life and memory are central themes in my painting.

My process is intuitive, blending techniques to build layers of colour and texture that evoke atmosphere as much as image. I am drawn to the tension between spontaneity and control—moments when brushstrokes suggest both clarity and ambiguity, allowing the viewer space to find their own meaning.

I see painting as a way to translate nature’s emotional power into visual form, creating works that invite both personal reflection and universal connection. While each canvas begins with my own response to the world around me, I aim for the work to transcend that starting point, becoming a shared space where memory, imagination, and feeling converge.

Ultimately, my art is a celebration of the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural environment. It is about distilling fleeting sensations—light, scent, warmth, mood—into images that resonate beyond the moment. I hope my paintings speak not only of what is seen, but of what is felt, remembered, and longed for.
