Rosina Kamphuis
Drawing, Painting, Printmaking & Installation

17 Jack Boyd Drive Mangawhai Heads
Open last Saturday of the month
Rosina immigrated to New Zealand from the Netherlands at the age of seven.
Rosina studied dance and drama, and was a dancer in stage productions in
Auckland theatres. Theatre remains an influence in Rosina’s art practice.
Returning to The Netherlands, Rosina was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts
Degree at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague in 1995. Rosina was one of the
initiators of Atelier de Haagse School, Art Centre and Workplace for artists with
an intellectual disability.
Back in Auckland, Rosina exhibited in Portfolio Gallery with Warwick Brown, ran
kids and adults art classes for Corban Estate Art Centre, and created several
installations for ‘Corban’s.’ Rosina undertook a Master of Fine Arts degree with a
focus on integrating drawings, painting, photography and digital texts to produce
solar plate etchings resulting in the creation of her Artist’s Book Tribute within
an installation, achieving First Class Honours at Whitecliffe College of Arts and
Design in 2003.
In 2017 Rosina initiated and led Project Stingray for Mangawhai Artists Inc and
the Mangawhai community, resulting in the iconic stingray installation hung on
the exterior MAI gallery wall. Such was the community’s enthusiasm, that Rosina
initiated Magical Mangawhai Goes Bush! One Moonlit Night in 2018, transforming
the gallery into a moonlit bush scene of fluorescent community art works under
UV lighting. In response to many requests, Rosina created a movie of One Moonlit
Night… with photographer and filmmaker Wayne George, which made its debut
at Mangawhai Movies on the big screen, and can be seen on YouTube.
Rosina participates in the Mangawhai Artists’ Art Trails and gallery exhibitions,
and is available for workshops.
Every last Saturday of the month, Rosina holds ‘Open Studio’ at home.
