About the trail
In addition to many venues in Mangawhai and Mangawhai Heads, this year the trail reaches a greater area. In Kaiwaka, a collective of seven artists will exhibit at Tulip Café on SH1, featuring paintings, photographs, resin work, and Māori-influenced wood carvings. Nearby on Gibbons Road, explore the work of sculptor Lucy Bucknall, natural dye specialist Karen Williamson, multimedia artist Peter Panyoczki, and jeweller Tatjana Panyoczki.
Jude Road in Mangawhai is another must-visit, showcasing Jocelyn Friis, an award-winning emerging artist. In Waipū, stop by Denis McCartain’s wood-turning studio, Claire Nicholl’s Black Shed studio and gallery, and at Langs Beach you will find Penny Goodall and friends, offering unique and unexpected art experiences. For a splash of bold color, visit Suzanne Simpson’s studio.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a casual admirer, the Mangawhai Art Trail is the perfect opportunity to discover local talent, meet artists, and enjoy Northland’s vibrant creative community. Printed maps will be available from the Mangawhai Artists Gallery, 45 Moir Street, or use this QR code to have the map at your fingertips on your handheld device.
